Purpose:
Manage and direct the production department optimizing production volume and cost of production while meeting product quality, safety and environmental requirements.


Environment:
Pacific Ethanol, Inc. (PEI) is a public traded company headquartered in Sacramento, CA. PEI markets ethanol to major and independent oil companies from either third party sources in the Midwest or from one of the plants it is building in the West. The company also markets the feed co-products through it Ag Products division to livestock feeding customers in locations where it has production facilities. The production facilities are strategically located to process corn to make ethanol, and feed products, taking advantage of unparalleled efficiencies in energy uses, waste reduction, water use and transportation costs.


The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and, management may modify this job description as needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for hiring, promotions and terminations. Provide HR with complete documentation.
2. Directly supervises all production lines.
3. Schedule daily work assignments.
4. Work with payroll to achieve accurate reporting of time cards. Report all absences and vacation requests in a timely manner.
5. Responsible for identifying and ordering needed material.
6. Establish a good rapport with supply vendors.
7. Promote teamwork and achievement of Company goals by coordinating and participating in meetings between all departments to ensure the timely and accurate flow of information.
8. Provide timely and accurate labor tracking and production reports.
9. Establish performance objectives and criteria for staff and monitor performance on a timely and periodic basis. Perform timely evaluation of all staff by written performance evaluations.
10. Provide training for all staff, ensuring job competency and efficient operations.
11. With assistance from the Plant Manager, coach and counsel staff and take disciplinary action on an as-needed and timely basis, ensuring effective performance.
12. Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Company values; promote an environment that appreciates diversity and treats all people with respect, prohibiting discrimination and harassment of any kind.
13. Ensure a safe, healthy work environment by following all safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and regulations per the Company’s IIPP, job safe practices and other related programs.
14. Responsible for safety training of new employees.
15. Others duties as assigned.


Education/Experience
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Technical ability to understand ethanol production


Qualifications


1. Three (3) or more years of direct experience in ethanol manufacturing, preferably in a Delta T ‘dry mill’ ethanol plant, including hands-on experience running process equipment and troubleshooting of equipment and systems with an in-depth knowledge of fermentation and distillation. In addition, candidates should possess the ability to read process flow diagrams with mass and energy balances and process and instrumentation diagrams.
2. Candidates should possess a documented successful track record in managing process facilities in a safe, reliable, cost effective manner.
3. Experience in interviewing, selecting plant personnel, establishing performance objectives and criteria and conducting performance evaluations. Creating and monitoring process operations performance metrics and communication results across the organization.
4. Minimum of 3 years experience in fuel ethanol plant supervision and processing
5. Excellent organizational skills
6. Detailed oriented and multi-tasking skills essential
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
8. Computer literate in Word and Excel
9. Strong communication and interaction skills
10. Valid driver’s license


Physical Requirements


Requirements include: frequently stand and walk. Occasionally to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, climb stairs/ladders or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear and smell. Exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust or focus.
